Skype, the international long distance call service provider, enjoys the major chunk of 12% of International calls being made across the globe. With a user base of 521 million users, skype beats the number of users of Facebook.
A study conducted by TeleGeography* reveals that 54 billion minutes calls have been made using skype out of a total of 406 billion minutes. Today, not only PC users but also many smartphone users are the customers of skype. skype application can be downloaded on smartphones including iPhone.

An increase in usage of VoIP is seen which is because of the inexpensive call rates as compared to the mobile service providers. We might soon find phone specially developed for skype, which would require just a working data connection. Panasonic and LG are working on skype integrated television sets, which will expand skype market.
