Live PC Care an imitated antivirus program is now offering Live Support to boost their sales. Researchers at Symantec say, once this fake anti-virus product is installed on the computer, users get a false message of their machine being infected by various malwares (This is how fake software like this work). Latest addition to this anti-virus program is “Live Support”.
Live Support button redirects you to a real human agent who tries to convince you to purchase the full version of the software, which is nothing but a try to rack in some money from simplicity of users.
Another similar company known as “Innovative marketing” was using the same technique for the product “WinFixer”. A support center was operated to provide support but the main purpose was to convince users to upgrade to full version.
These fake anti-virus programs have been discomforting in the past. An annoying pop-up installs the software convincing people that their computer has been infected.
43 Million Fake antivirus installation attempts were observed by Symantec from July 2008 to July 2009.
