A joint initiative to launch local Internet content drive in the country has been announced by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Pakistan Network Information Center (PKNIC).
Under the program, PKNIC would offer 5,000 free domains to those who are willing to develop Local Content websites in Urdu or any other local language.
It is important to mention here that PKNIC is a “country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD)” operator that represents a country on the Internet.
In an event, Chairman PTA, Dr. Muhammad Yaseen said:
The main idea behind this support is the importance linked with availability of local contents and applications for the future perspective of Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector for Pakistan.
He further added that this initiative is the first of its kind in the world and we hope that this program will encourage and contribute towards the development of the local contents followed by applications.
Dr. Yaseen appreciated the efforts made by PKNIC management for initiating this important project. PKNIC management highly appraised the necessary endorsement of Chairman PTA for the joint project.
In the end Chairman PTA concluded that we are now acquiring information on how to attain free domain with PKNIC under local content drive.
