Asus Launches Ultra-thin Zenbook

The promise of coming up with a cheap, low-budget ultrabook hasn’t yet been fulfilled by Asus. However, it has introduced something really impressive at a private event on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Yes, we are talking about new Zenbook, which measures 3 mm on its thinnest side, while 17 mm on its thickest side. The overall looks of the new Zenbook give the feel of its chief 11.6-inch competitor, the MacBook Air.

The company announced two basic models, including the 11.6-inch UX21 and the 13-inch UX31. Generally, the Zenbook is popular more as an ‘Ultrabook’ – a label used by Intel for latest range of super thin and light laptops based on its second generation Core mobile CPUs.

Both Ultrabooks feature a 4GB of RAM, USB 2.0 and 3.0, a Bang and Olufsun audio system, micro HDMI and mini VGA out. The UX21features a standard Core i5-2467M mobile processor, 128GB of SATA SSD drive and 11.6-inch display with 1366×768 resolution. The initial price set for this Ultrabook is $999. You can spend additional $200 to upgrade your device to i7 processor.

The UX31 on the other hand is available for $1099. It features a Core i5 2557M processor, an SD card reader, and a 13.1-inch display with 1600×900 resolution. You can upgrade this device to Core i7 for additional payment of $100 and $250 for additional storage of 256GB.

The Zenbook is encased in an aluminum sheet with a well brushed design on the lid. Both UX21 and UX31 devices are lightweight, i.e. 2.43lb and 2.86lb respectively. It is too early to say whether how tough competition will it give to its chief competitor, Apple’s MacBook Air. It is just launched and may take some time to develop its market.
