Facebook Announces Expandable Ad Unit

Facebook is receiving a lot of changes these days. For last month or two so many features and improvements are introduced in Facebook. The introduction of a new type of ad is also a part of these changes. This new type of Facebook ad will expand if any of the friends ‘Liked’ the brand.

The ad unit is going to be announced at Advertising Week in New York. It sharply differs from the Sponsored Stories introduced in January in two aspects, i.e. it will never appear in the News Feed and it has an advertiser message as well contrary to Sponsored ads, which never show any interaction with a brand. The new ad unit will also inform you whether a friend of yours responded to the particular brand or not.

The new ad unit will also expand so as to enable you to add comment or see other comments on the given ad. The image of an ad given in the article is just a crude example of The Ides of March to show you how it will work as no advertisers have signed on this new ad unit yet.

The idea behind devising such an ad unit is to make them more effective than other standard display ads. The recommendations from friends will help exaggerating the brand’s reach. This can be understand by taking into consideration the research result conducted in May with comScore suggesting that Starbucks fans and friends of fans exploited 8% more at the coffee chain compared to other Internet users.
