Facebook to Include Sponsored Stories in News Feeds

According to social networking giant, it is aiming to drift its Sponsored Stories ad platform into users’ newsfeeds early in 2012.

Facebook introduced Sponsored Stories last January. These are actually a new ad format incorporating your Facebook friends’ activities into small ads and appear on the right side of the News Feed in the column. These ads started appearing in the Ticker as well from the last month.

The addition was warmly welcomed by the Facebook users. It seems that the social networking giant, arranging a $100 billion IPO next year, is content with its Sponsored Stories as an advertising solution. The company takes it as a primary method to monetize the 800 million plus social network.

Predicting the possible criticism for its most recent move regarding Sponsored Stories, the company’s representative stresses on the point that the ads will be used economically. The company’s spokeswoman says that maximum of one ad will appear in majority of the users’ Newsfeeds each day. She adds further that the intensity at which the ads cycle through the Newsfeed will solely depend on several factors that aren’t yet determined by the company.

Furthermore, she says that a product similar to Sponsored Stories was offered by Facebook somewhere between 2006 and 2007. Though the name was same but it was completely a different product appearing in the users’ Newsfeeds.

To our utter surprise, the addition of ads by Facebook in users’ Newsfeed has an equivalent as well – Twitter started including ads in users’ Newsfeed back in August. Twitter also called it as Timeline.
