China Telecom to Offer iPhone 4S on March 9th

It was reported in January that the China Telecom received the essential permits and approvals from Apple to sell the iPhone 4S on its network. Now as Apple approved China Telecom as an iPhone 4S carrier, it means that iPhone 4S exclusivity is taken away from China Unicom.

Jim Dalrymple of The Loop says late night that the iPhone 4S will be coming to China Telecom on March 9th. The report is confirmed on China Telecom’s website as well.

iPhone 4S will be available starting at RMB 0 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models on select contracts in China Telecom’s authorized stores and online, the company said.

The iPhone 4S will be sold on both China Telecom’s website and in its authorized retail outlets. The carrier will offer different models of iPhone 4S including 16GB, 32GB and 64GB on select contracts for $0 RMB. Apple’s latest smartphone has already done well all over the world and adding another carrier in China will certainly boost the Apple’s sales margins.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook pointed out during the company’s earnings call in January that China is one of the potential markets for Apple products. Tim Cook said that he was very keen to see the growth of Apple’s product in the Chinese market.

Natalie Harrison, Apple’s spokeswoman while talking to The Loop expressed some similar sort of excitement:

“iPhone 4S has been an incredible hit with customers around the world. We’re thrilled to be launching iPhone 4S with China Telecom and can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers in China.”

There are three major carriers in the China with China Telecom currently having about 130 million subscribers in China and is the third largest carrier in the country. China Mobile is the country’s largest carrier with more than 600 million subscribers. China Unicom is on the second place with over 200 million customers.

China’s smartphone market is certainly one of the biggest markets in the world. Having sold its iPhone 4S in the country will certainly boosts the Apple’s worldwide sales.
