RIM Introduces $120 BlackBerry PlayBook Mini Keyboard

Research In Motion or commonly known as RIM is a Canada-based smartphone manufacturer that introduced its PlayBook almost 17 months ago. However, the product was officially launched just eleven months ago. The company struggle to bring a native email and messaging app to the device and almost took 10 months to bring these apps on the device. It’s been almost a year since the device launched and RIM has introduced a keyboard folio case for the struggling tablet. The keyboard costs $120.

It seems that the Canadian company is in some sort of time warp, where hours equal days and days equal months. In my opinion, this can be the only logic to explain RIM’s product release cycle. Or perhaps, the company is running by some dumb executives who might spend much of their time in golf course than devising ways to bring fortune to the company.

To tell the truth, the PlayBook is certainly a quality device spoiled by an in appropriate handling of incompetent company. The device feels good in hand and the operating system is pretty good. However, it seems that company didn’t take serious steps to promote this potential product. The big mistake made by the company while launching the product was not to include the basic native apps, including email, messaging and calendar.

Contrary to this, company took its time to develop these key apps and just recently brought them to the tablet. If these apps and keyboard folio was presented with device at the time of its launch, RIM could have benefited from this to large extent. The sort of keyboard case RIM has announced is in fact not new in the market, as such sort of cases were already there in the market when the PlayBook was launched in 2010.

But still, it is thought that the keyboard case will work well with the device. RIM is known for making quality accessories, but often expensive ones. The company need to sort things properly while taking into consideration all the aspects.
