WordPress 3.3 ‘Sonny’ Adds New Features

WordPress, is a popular blogging platform – its latest and greatest version is has finally released. Previously, WordPress 3.2 happened to be a great hit with 14 million downloads. Now the latest version 3.3 named ‘Sonny’ is imminently available for download or update inside WordPress dashboard. The new version is codenamed ‘Sonny’ in an honor of the jazz saxophonist ‘Sonny Stitt’.

Since the release of version 3.0, the WordPress has seen more than 65 million downloads. With each newer version, the software is getting improved with new features and enhancements. The latest version is a result of five months of hard work and released with a number of new features, updates and improved contextual help user interface.

The first most obvious change that you will notice is its redesigned dashboard, which sports new menus and toolbars to make things simple and easy for the users, particularly with smaller screens.

The latest version also includes call-outs and pointers for new users and a better contextual help UI. The media manager also receives a new and more streamlined media uploader with drag-and-drop image uploading.

It seems that the focus of developers is very much on to improve and refine the existing features and functionality for the developers rather than introducing a bundle of new features.

As for the WordPress 3.3 version, the developers get a new API editor for improved integration with the core WordPress post and page editor. The latest version also features updated versions of jQuery and jQuery UI.

A good number of developers have already updated their personal sites to the latest ‘Sonny’ version of the WordPress and enjoying the new admin toolbar and an impressive layout of the side navigation menus.

We hope that the future versions of the WordPress will launch with stronger management and search system. Until now download or update to latest version and feel the difference yourself.

Firefox 4 Hits 100 Million Downloads Mark [First Month]

Mozilla launched Firefox 4 exactly 1 month ago and its enjoying a great response. It has hit over 100 million downloads and counting fast. The number is more than twice as many download as Internet Explorer 9 after its release.

What is more interesting is that Firefox has captured 7.94% of the worldwide browser market according to the StatCounter whereas Internet Explorer 8.0 stands at 29.99%, Firefox 3.6 at 24.43% and Chrome 10 at 15.35%.

When compared to the percentages four days after its launch it looks like Firefox 4 has taken a solid chunk out of Firefox 3.6 usage: On March 22 IE had 45% of the global market, followed by Firefox 3.6 with 30% and Chrome with 17%. Firefox 4 was at 1.95% then.

We had stopped using Firefox because of various problems it was causing including slow speed and crashing issues. But we are also surprised by the speed of this new version although it has some issues related to Adobe product – Adobe Reader and Flash but rest is good. On the 4th day of Firefox 4 release, Chrome came up with Chrome 11 beta which included support for an HTML 5 speed input API.

AV Test Certifies 17 Security Suites for Windows 7

Recently, AV Test, a testing organization conducted a series of anti-malware certification tests on almost 22 products and rated them, depending on several different factors. The test was basically for the first quarter of 2011 based on Windows 7. According to the AV Test, out of 22, 17 products were stood worthy of AV-Test’s Certified badge. Five of them failed to make any impression.

The purpose of these tests is to assess the products’ real-time protection capabilities, scanning detection rates, impact on the protected system and cleaning and disinfection. Point system was so designed that each of the categories could earn products up to six points and the passing marks were set to be 11 out of total 18 marks.

Following are given the names of 17 products able to pass the test:

Avast: Free AntiVirus 5.0 and 6.0
AVG: Internet Security 10.0
Avira: Premium Security Suite 10.0
BitDefender: Internet Security Suite 2011
BullGuard: Internet Security 10.0
Eset: Smart Security 4.2

From the above list, BitDefender, F-Secure, and Symantec were the three products that went ahead of other 14 products and able to secure 15 or more points out of 18. Then comes G Data, Kaspersky, and Panda got 14 points each. AVG managed to get 13.5, Sophos 13 and ESET, Trend Micro, and Webroot able to get 12.5 points. Sunbelt (GFI) secured 12 points. Avast, Avira, eScan, and Microsoft, all four managed to get 12.54 points. The product that hardly managed to secure the passing points was BullGuard and held the last position with 11 points.

Following are given the names of products that failed to make any impression at all:

McAfee: Total Protection 2011
Norman: Security Suite Pro 8.0
PC Tools: Internet Security 2011

Among these five products, Norman and McAfee got the lowest score of 8.5 points because of a good number of false positives. Certainly, McAfee is a big name in this list and this poor record has obviously shaken the heads of many for sure.

AV Test is aiming to have next certification tests in the 2nd quarter or Q2 of 2011 and this time for Windows XP. We will come back to you later with more news!

Microsoft Launched Kinect for Windows SDK Beta, Sign-Up Now

It is just a night before when we were expecting the launch of Kinect for Windows SDK by Microsoft and finally Microsoft launched its software development kit, Kinect for Windows beta on the second day of MIX11 conference, opening the host of opportunities for developers to create news apps, games and tools for PCs. Currently, developers can sign-up for beta version as the service will officially available for download on May, 16.

Some of the key features of Kinect for Windows SDK include:

The latest advances in audio processing, which include a four-element microphone array with sophisticated acoustic noise and echo cancellation for crystal clear audio.

Sound source localization for beam-forming, which enables the determination of a sound’s spatial location, enhancing reliability when integrated with the Microsoft speech recognition API.

Depth data, which provides the distance of an object from the Kinect camera, as well as the raw audio and image data, which together open up opportunities for creating richer natural user interface experiences.

Highly performant and robust skeletal tracking capabilities for determining the body positions of one or two persons moving within the Kinect field of view.

Apple’s New Final Cut Pro X Soon Hit Mac App Store

Apple has finally launched its long awaited Final Cut Pro X, a major breakthrough in the video-editing software technology which is long awaited by filmmakers, journalists and video professionals at an event at Supermeet in Las Vegas. Although, Apple announced Final Cut Pro X on Tuesday night in a presentation at National Assn. of Broadcasters trade show in Las Vegas, but details are provided now.

As the Final Cut Pro is created from the ground up, it takes full advantage of all the processing cores of the processor. Apple to be very precise doesn’t provide any details of the other apps that are the part of this suite including Motion, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor Pro, Color and Soundtrack Pro.

Besides these apps, the Final Cut Pro X offers a large number of different features as well like color management, background rendering and one remarkable new feature named magnetic timeline. This new feature enables the professionals to move the clip in the timeline without even moving the other clip within the complete timeline.

Apple has set the price for this Final Cut Pro X as $299 and this will be available in the Mac App Store by June 2011.

Microsoft Kinect for Windows SDK Likely to be Announced Today

We have got some reports that Microsoft has decided to announce the Kinect for Windows SDK beta. It was in February when we came across the rumors that Microsoft will be aiming to announce Kinect for Windows SDK somewhere in Spring 2011. It is more likely that Microsoft launch its Kinect for Windows SDK at MIX11 conference.

Don Mattrick, President of Microsoft interactive business division at an occasion already said that Microsoft has the plans to launch SDK in Spring. In the light of that statement, we are anticipating that the beta version may likely be announced at MIX11 conference today.

With the launch of Kinect for Windows SDK, developers will able to develop applications that will capable of using the Kinect hardware on Windows. The key features of Kinect for Windows SDK are not yet unveiled by the Microsoft; however, we have some reports that Joe Belfiore and Scott Guthrie have a plan to reveal some of its key feature on Wednesday and today is Wednesday.

Microsoft Office for Mac Service Pack 1 Available for Download

Good news for Mac users as Microsoft has unleashed the first Microsoft Office Suite for Mac. Microsoft claims that the new Service Pack 1 comes with an improved performance, stability and bug fixes. Besides this, the Service Pack 1 also offers a bundle of new features to the users.

In a statement about the Microsoft Office Suite for Mac Service Pack 1, Microsoft claims that this Service Pack will provide enhanced synchronizing between Outlook for Mac and calendars on iOS devices. Apart from this, Outlook will now have support for synchronizing with Apple Sync Services in this Office Suite.

The full and final version of Internet Explorer 9 has been released by the Microsoft which is available on Microsoft’s official website for download. Unlike previous versions of Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer 9 is designed for Wind0ws 7 and Windows Vista. Windows XP doesn’t support Internet Explorer 9 despite the fact that Windows XP still shares 55% of overall market.

This new version may be an attempt from Microsoft to attract the users of Firefox and Google Chrome to Internet Explorer as this new version has certain enhanced features which were not present in the older version of Internet Explorer.

The most prominent change that has been made in this new version is in the form of sleek interface. Toolbars are gone and the search box is positioned into the address bar similar to Google Chrome. The only difference between the two (IE & Chrome) is in IE one can switch the search engine while typing the query while in case of Chrome, one has to do it by visiting ‘Option’ page.

Unlike other browsers, this new version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer deters the use of add-ons no matter if the said add-on is developed by Microsoft itself. Firefox 4: Around 30 Million Downloads in First 4 Days

Mozilla Launched Firefox 4 on 22nd of March 2011 and it’s a great success. According to Mozilla Official blog, Firefox 4 had been downloaded 7.1 million time. The second day was even higher and total 8.75 million people downloaded it. That’s comes to a total of 15.85 million total downloads in just two days. As of today, March 26, 2011, Firefox 4 had been downloaded around 30 million times.

Mozilla claims that Firefox 4 is faster, cleverly intuitive to use and will be available for desktops and mobile devices. It is expected that Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo will be released in next couple of weeks.

I am yet to upgrade my Firefox to 4 but as soon as I do it, will surely review it for the convenience of visitors. You might be wondering what’s new in Firefox 4. Watch the video below:

The Apple’s new device iPad doesn’t support Adobe Flash as Apple says that Flash is not reliable, is not secure, has low-performance, doesn’t keep up with the improvements and drains battery life. Use of large powerful apps will drain battery live no matter if you’re using HTML

Almost 70 percent of the high traffic websites uses flash. People seem to resent that Apple has come up with HTLM5. They think Apple is trying to put Adobe Flash out of business. Flash has been around to long, and works to well for it to be that easily replaced.

Flash has come up with Flash 10.1 to answer Apples HTML5 as its option for working with hand held devices. Flash 10.1 it will make possible the use of the standard Bightcove video player. Flash delivers seventy five percent of all online videos. Flash and Flash players are growing smartphones, netbooks and smart books.

Apple has been working on HTML5 for sometime. It is true we need programs that will make all computers and devices to work more smoothly together. The project is so large some people say it won’t fully be ready for several more years. However You Tube one of the consumers favorite sites, are using a subset of HTML5. Canvas and offline storage is a working subset of HTML5 that has already appeared on “desktop Web” and mobile Web T.

The HTML5 at this time doesn’t have the power of Flash; it has some program options that may add to the use of PCs and other devices. Canvas is a very good program that when drawing can over lap circles which Flash can’t do at this point. The problem is not where you buy a regular computer or mobile PC that’s using HTML5 or Flash, its lack of a genuine commitment to what the users want. Very few organizations develop products around user needs. Most enterprises don’t care enough about user experience to change their habits.

This doesn’t mean that after HTML5 has been fully developed it will not be used as well. I think there is room for both. I think they will be chosen for what ever work one is doing at the time. Then again there may be something new by the time HTML5 is fully developed. It’s pretty obvious that Flash isn’t going any where soon especially as huge companies have based their business models on what Flash provides.

There will always be new programs and companies looking for better ways to interact with these programs. Technology is growing in leaps and bounds. We the consumer wants to see this continue. So I think most of us will glad to see what direction Flash and HTML5 goes.

4 Features to Expect in iPhone OS 4.0

Less than a week after the iPad was launched, Apple lifted the warps off iPhone OS 4.0 of Apple’s mobile operating system. The new OS will add new functionality to current iPod touch, iPhone and iPad devices. Yes one has to agree that there is always a room for improvement in the OS.

Here are some important that the new iPhone OS version 4.0 will offer to the user:

1. Multitasking

Now the new OS have the ability to run more than one, 3^rd party applications at given time. While the OS supports multiple apps running concurrently, it forces limits to help ensure a positive experience with core functionality. The iPhone OS of today is capable of multitasking because the feature is currently supported on some native Apple applications – listening to music in the iPod app while web surfing or checking mail is a good example.

2. Higher resolution

The new iPhone 4.0 will support higher resolutions for the next-generation devices. This could help iPad owners as well. The iPhone apps do work on the iPad today, but the pixel doubling of lower-resolution software makes apps look blocky and blurry.

3. Support for a second camera

Definitely, the camera in the next iPhone will be higher than the current 3-megapixel. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see a second, front-facing camera for video chatting in iPhone OS 4.0. Google added this highly useful function to Android 2.1 and it ought to be a staple in any modern Smartphone. What Is A Content Management System?

A Content Management System or simply a website CMS is a software that exists on a server and return web pages as a means of displaying a website. Actually pages do not exist on the server and instead are created from a database on-the-fly, by the CMS software. Page design is based on templates instead of the free-form method used in normal web pages, and this means that content is separated from design, so that each does not affect the other. In practical terms it means that design issues are resolved more easily and quickly.

Therefore, CMS is the best way to run a large website, or indeed any site where regular edits or changes are made; and where additional functions will be needed at a later date.

Main points of a CMS:

1. Pages are edited online via a normal browser.

2. Edits go live immediately.

3. The site owner can easily edit, add or delete pages.

4. With minimal training, the site owner may be able to add new menu items and even sections to the site.

5. Design and layout are controlled by templates – no custom design is necessary, though of course it can be utilized in order to extensively customize the page appearance.

6. Additional features are added via plug-ins – no custom work is needed.

7. Plug-ins are (or should be) widely available.

8. Content of many different types can be organized and presented in many different ways.

9. Content is completely separated from presentation – i.e. the page content does not affect its layout.

10. Rich media capability is usually better than that for standard websites.

All CMS use a database (DB) of some type, the most common being SQL. If no SQL database is available, then there is an alternative: a flat-file DB, which is basically a text file.

More significant points:

1. On a normal website, the web pages exist on the server.

2. On a CMS site, there are no web pages on the server.

3. The CMS will normally use an SQL database.

4. The pages are built on demand and do not pre-exist.

5. When there is no SQL on the server, or no access to management functions, then a flat-file CMS can be used.

Content management systems can be divided into many different kinds, for several different purposes. Firstly, there are website CMS and non-website CMS. In addition, Crescent Steel also employed Oracle Order Management, Oracle Purchasing, Oracle Inventory Management, Oracle Discrete Manufacturing, Oracle Production Scheduling, Oracle Enterprise Asset Management, and Oracle Business Intelligence Solution.

The Crescent Steel is also planning to implement Oracle Discoverer to provide further control panels and reporting.
