Mobilink, NADRA Join Hands for Utility Bills Payment Solution

This service will be available Free-of-Charge and around the clock. Deputy Chairman NADRA, Tariq Malik and Vice President Marketing Mobilink, Bilal Munir Sheikh inked the agreement to this effect.

NADRA Technologies Ltd (NTL) has undertaken this innovative approach to develop an e-Sahulat billing switch to provide an integrated system response to clients for payment of utility bills through alternate channels like mobiles phones, internet, ATM, bank branches and telcos outlets. The facility will empower Mobilink retailers to accept and deposit utility bills from all Mobilink and Non Mobilink customers, even people who do not own a mobile phone can avail this service by walking into a Mobilink retailer’s outlet and depositing their utility bills round the clock, within the due dates.

At the signing, Tariq Malik, Deputy Chairman NADRA said, “We are pleased to partner with the Mobilink which is the country’s largest cellular family with the most widespread retail and distribution network. With the recent turn in technology and the rise of ubiquitous computing the world over, it comes as a little surprise that not much has been happening to promote this ‘new technology’ era in Pakistan. Although, there has been a gradual transferal in trend of cell phones users shifting from ordinary mobile phones usage such as making and receiving calls and messaging towards more value added services offered by the new generation of smart phones including emailing, documents viewing, gaming, photos and video capturing and even editing and what not.

The irony however, lies in the fact that there is very little support for these technology savvy smart phone features in the market and mobile service providers are doing little in their own capacity to promote the trend and accommodate for the shift in the nature of use of mobile phone technology. With tablet computers being the new ‘IN’ thing the world over nowadays, in Pakistan, we’ve hardly seen telecom companies actively involved in promoting the smartphones revolution in our country.

Perhaps, Mobilink is the only one to date who has done a commendable job in taking initiative of starting the smartphones revolution in Pakistan back in 2005 when they first launched BlackBerry. At that time, only the elite, the corporate and the professional could think of using the BlackBerry because of its usage and benefits of ultimate connectivity. Every single user of a smartphone has a different set of needs and is comfortable with using a specific kind of smartphone for example, I am a hardcore Android phone person and I will never go for a BlackBerry. Mobilink Exclusively Launched Samsung Galaxy Tab at Lahore Bloggers Meet-up!

In the year 2010, Mobilink initiated a new tradition of involving online community of bloggers in mobile technology related launches in Pakistan. The main aim was to engage, seek opinion and build relationship with the people who are always abreast with the latest technological trends in the telecom and mobile phone technology.

On New Year’s eve, Mobilink in collaboration with Samsung and Google launched the P1000 Galaxy tablet in the blogging community of Lahore. The meet-up took place in Bistro 201 and about 120 bloggers from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad showed up at the event including Jehan Ara, President PASHA Pakistan, Jibran, the current top Google mapper from Pakistan and teams of Propakistani and ApnaTime.

Mobilink to Launch SMS Based Twitter Service Tonight

Keeping up with latest trends in technology and keeping an eye on youth patterns, Mobilink will be launching the first SMS based Twitter Service for the Pakistani market.

Jazz Jazba Logo Controversy

I have been receiving emails regarding the recently introduced Mobilink Jazz Jazba logo being copied from somewhere. According to the emails, the logo looks like Zagora logo (image below) and Jazz Jazba logo is also created using the same tutorial. The logo is not a copy, its just on the same pattern. Have you ever heard of typography and logo design? Typography is the art and technique of arranging type, type design, and modifying type glyphs. This technique is often used by Graphic designers to design cool graphics. Following is the Zagora logo.

Having said that, I think that any company needs to develop it’s own brand, and which includes image, logo, etc. Mobilink clearly failed to do so. Instead they copied the idea from some other site and launched it. It’s not hard to have a reasonably priced good logo. There are a lot of designers in Pakistan who could have done this for less than PKR 5000/-. But Mobilink did not bother to make any efforts to develop their own unique brand. Its very obvious that when you copy someone else’s idea, both lose uniqueness no matter you are targeting different markets. Have look at Jazz Jazba logo.

This causes a bad affect on Mobilink’s reputation. I think they should change the logo immediately and this time use some ‘out of the box’ technique so that no controversy arises.

Mobilink Indigo now introduces business package “iBusiness” for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) postpaid customers which gives discounts on monthly usage.

With ‘Indigo Business Package’ business team members can make group calls for 30 paisas per min. A business of 4-25 employees can get benefits from this package. Other features of this package include GPRS buckets and discounted DSL/WiMAX connection.

Finally, Mobilink Infinity provides some incentives to its customers. Now, new Mobilink Infinity (WiMax) subscribers will get 50% off on activation nan all existing subscriber will enjoy double monthly bandwidth limit free of cost. New customers will also enjoy double bandwidth.

The activation cost is lowered down to Rs. 250/- (original activatio ncharges are Rs. 500/-). This offer is available with Non Wi Fi CPE as well as Wi Fi CPE. Infinity WiMAX USB Dongle activation charges have also been reduced.

Mobilink Posts Strong Revenues [Q3 2010]

Mobilink posted strong revenues, higher income and an increasing subscriber base in the third quarter of 2010 against the same period last year.

Mobilink, part of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH), posted revenues of Rs. 23 billion for the third quarter of 2010 compared with Rs 21.5 billion for the same period last year, and increase of 6.27% growth. Revenue grew by 9.6 Percent during the first nine months of 2010, according to the results published by OTH.

Expect it to grow as Mobilink is now going to charge Rs. 2 per call to helpline

Mobilink to Charge Rs. 2/- Per Call to Helpline

Mobilink will be charging Rs. 2 + tax (Rs. 2.42/- inclusive taxes) per call to Mobilink Help Line from November 15, 2010. This is worth mentioning that Pakistan is the only country where calls to helplines are charged. The idea of charging for Helpline calls was introduced by Mobilink a couple of years ago which was followed by other market players.

The companies give explanation that these charges are taken to improve the quality of customer services and we can see how much it has effected that… NOT AT ALL.

Expect it to be followed by other Mobile Operators if PTA doesn’t take any notice.
