CEO Wateen, Tariq Malik Resigns

Wateen has replaced Tariq Malik from CEO seat and Naeem Zamindar would be the new Chief Executive Officer of the company. Tariq Malik increased the company’s initital investment of $35 million to $353 million.

A meeting was held on Dec. 08, 2010 confirming Naeem Zamindar the new CEO and also Zohair Khalid, the new director of the company. According to the Wateen officials, Tariq Malik resigned because of some personal reasons.

Tariq Malik is looking to start an independent business in Pakistan. Mazhar added that Malik will be opening up shop in Pakistan of all places, which is something exciting to look forward to, according to independent telecom analysts.

Officials said that job stress had been worrying Malik slightly and there had been rumours of him falling sick and not coming in for weeks on end. Interestingly, Mazhar said that Malik might stay on with the company as a consultant for a few months. This move might help the company get used to life without him, speculated industry observers.

Malik submitted its resignation back in July 2010 to resign in Jan 2011. It took around 10 months for the company to find a replacement for Tahir Malik.

“It was also a matter of Malik honouring his contract, though that does not at all mean that he did not want to stay on,” said Mazhar who added that taking this long to find a replacement was the norm for a company such as theirs. “Wateen is subject to SECP regulations, a public limited company. The CEO cannot just resign and leave everything in the middle. There has to be due process,” he added.

Malik himself said, while talking to The Express Tribune, that he was glad to stay on up till now and help the company after his resignation.

Wateen DigiPay to Easily Pay Your Bills

For the customers’ convenience and ease to pay Wateen bill payments, Wateen Telecom has recently announced the launched of ‘DigiPay.’

DigiPay is a service that gives customers an option to buy electronic PINs through a number of various mediums for Wateen bill payments. This service has been launched by Wateen Telecom in collaboration with epay, enabling its customers to pay Wateen bills through:

ATMs,
Credit/Debit Cards,
POS,
SMS,
Internet,
Phone etc.

Via Phone

Those customers who have Bank Alfalah credit cards can get Wateen PINs around the clock by calling Bank Alfalah’s customer helpline, i.e. 111-225-111. Wateen Pins are also available against reward points’ redemption.

Credit and Debit Pay

Wateen customers can also pay their Wateen bills by simply swiping their credit/debit cards of any bank at MCB Credit Card machines that are available at most of the major grocery stores. An electronic voucher with Wateen PIN is allotted to them in their desired value.

Wateen USB Service Down for More than a Week Now!

I am using Wateen USB WiMax service and there had an outage of service last week. The device tries to find the network but fails to connect and repeat the process again and again. At first I thought, something went wrong with my device. I contacted them and they told me that their is some problem with the network and will be resolved soon. But even after 8 days, I cannot access my Internet with Wateen USB Dongle.

So far many users of Wateen USB dongle from different cities i.e. Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Karachi, Gujrat, etc. has confirmed that the outage is not limited to one city but everywhere. What they tell you on phone is that their is some technical problem in “YOUR” area and they lie, not only in that area but everywhere.

Upon asking about the days we faced the issue, how would you compensate, they told me that they will rebate us which I am sure will be an unjustified solution. I will keep you people updated on this.

Please note that according to my information, the problem is only with Wateen USB Dongle. Other Wateen WiMax devices are working fine in my city.

You Cannot Move Your Wireless Device – Wateen Rep Tells

I have been using Wateen since long. Infact, I am one of the very beginning customers of Wateen WiMax service. I moved to another location around 7 months ago within the same city and Wateen WiMax was working fine there until Friday, 22 Jan 2010. Before I proceed further, let me tell you I am using Motrolla device (picture below) which was launched initially with the launch of Wateen WiMax services in Pakistan. Ok… on 22nd of Jan 2010, the connection broke down. There were no signals and when I contacted customer services, they told me that they cannot lock my complaint because I am not using the device on the registered address but he did me a ‘favor’ and told me that work is under process in that particular area and the service is likely to be resumed within 24 hours.

Nothing happened even after 24 hours. I was still unable to use Wateen WiMax and called them again. They again told me that they are working and I will soon be able to use the service. Nothing happened again…that’s irritating yet frustrating.

Today, when I tried to connect the device, it was still not connecting and I contact the customer center again. I asked the person that why the service is still not available in the area and he told me the same story of registering the new address and he won’t be able to lodge my complaint until I do that. I asked him what justification they give to the customer who have their addresses registered in that area, he was speechless but told me at least he can lock a complaint for those users (I agree).

Now the funniest part, he told me that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has policy of not shifting the device from the address registered otherwise they cannot guarantee that the service will work. Wow…you cannot use your wireless device out of your house. I wonder why people use wireless broadband service. Reason is simple; so that they can use it anywhere they want. No? Well… I asked him to forward me a copy of that policy to my email and he excused himself from that.

I am also using Wateen Dongle service which is good (you can ready my experience with Wateen Dongle here.) but the increase in customer base of Wateen WiMax did really affect the service quality. I never tried Wateen Dongle out of my house but lets try this out. If we can not use a Wireless device out of our house, there is no purpose of purchasing one. All I can do now is; register my new address and see if the problem resolves (oh gosh!!! I will have to visit their franchise for that ).

My Experience with Wateen USB Dongle – A Review

Being a loyal PTCL EvDO user for a few months I finally made up my mind to purchase the new Wateen USB Dongle, which I’ve heard a lot of good comments about. A single call to their customer support center and they guided me all the way to the requirements and charges associated with this new USB device. Visiting their office and paying a small fee was all I had to do and I was the owner of a brand new Wateen USB dongle. Pretty easy Yeah!

The package included User Guide, an installation disk, USB Dongle and a connector. That’s it! I installed the software, plugged the device and entered the given Login & Password and I was connected straight away. My main focus was to check whether it’s browsing is better than PTCL EvDO because this is what I was comparing Wateen’s new USB device with and I was quite happy to find out that Wateen’s browsing was relatively faster than PTCL EvDO which is 3.1 Mbps.

Downloading speed is around 125 – 150 KBps which lacks if we compare it with EvDO. I’m now going to compare Wateen USB device with couple of other wireless providers so that you guys can make up your minds easily.

The best part is that you can get a USB device with 15 days money back guarantee. All in all I’m a satisfied customer and one of the main reasons why I’m happy is the low price and prepaid availability, which allows me to stop using it any time and I don’t even pay unlike other service providers where we have to pay monthly no matter if we don’t use it. Though, I hope they will continue to provide superior customer support as this in my opinion plays a vital role in making/losing a customer.
