Windows Phone 7 was announced in last year at the venue of Barcelona. It has been a year now since the announcement of this Smartphone. Microsoft certainly has done a great job and work hard on this new mobile platform which not just only features large range of smart applications but also blended the entire desktop inside a small phone. As we are aware of the fact that Smartphones are known to have high end applications that keep running all at once in the background and affected the only thing called battery life. Battery life has always been a cause of concern for many users of Smartphones. However, to overcome this problem in the new Windows Phone 7 platform, Microsoft has done a remarkable job in saving your battery backup. Following are given some of the useful tips that will help you minimize the consumption of your phone battery.

1. Changing your User Interface Color

It is a great way to reduce the power load on your phone’s battery. It is strongly recommended to change the user interface color to black or something dark. You have a number of options to choose from in Windows Phone 7 platform. Black or dark backgrounds save a lot of power for your phone battery.

2. Avoid Multitasking on your Smartphones

Multitasking also affect the battery life so it is suggested not to use your phone for multitasking all the time. However, Windows Phone 7 has a unique feature in it which helps a lot in saving the battery power. This feature is designed so that while using any application, if you received a call, it will automatically stop the application during the period of your talking time and as soon as you end the call, it will resume the application from where it is stopped. Certainly, in this way a lot of battery power can be saved.

3. Changing the Email Retrieval Settings

Windows Phone 7 also features email retrieval settings. These settings allow the user to customize email retrieval period in their phones. It is a kind of push email facility featured in majority of the Smartphones and consumes a lot of battery power. It is therefore a good idea to customize email retrieval period to minimize the battery consumption.

4. Disabling your Automatic Data Connection Feature

Another feature that Windows Phone 7 has is ‘Automatic Data Connection’ feature. This feature automatically connects your phone with computer when become within a suitable range. This feature consumes good amount of phone battery. It is better to turn off this feature and manually turns it on when needed.

5. Switching off your Wi-Fi Connection

In most of the Smartphones, the Wi-Fi connection remains always active so as to when reach in range it automatically connects. It also consumes a lot of battery power of your phone. Better to switch it off when not in range to ensure that your phone battery is not consumed.

6. Reduce your Screen Brightness

Screen brightness is another major cause that affects the battery power. The higher the brightness, more it will consume the battery. So, try lowering the screen brightness to ascertain that your phone battery remains charged up for longer period of time.

7. Turning Off the Apps

The other way you can save your phone battery is by turning off the unnecessary applications that are there to consume a large part of your phone battery. For example, if you are having a weather application, it will keep on consuming your phone battery because its function is to connect to internet (GPRS) and update the weather for. There are many such applications which you can abstain from to save battery power.

8. Turning off the GPS Positioning Service

GPS Positioning Service is another common application in almost all the new Smartphones. This service is widely used to identify correct location and time for particular place. Although, it is a useful service, it consumes a lot of battery power. So, it is necessary to turn this service off when you are not using it to save your phone battery.

9. Synchronize Music and Picture on your Desktop

The next thing you can do to save your phone battery is to prevent synchronizing the music files that have a longer streaming time. Also, try synchronizing your music and picture files that you use often on desktop or laptop to minimize the battery usage.

10. Configure to Shorter Screen Time-out Duration

Another way to save battery power is to set your screen time-out duration as low as possible because the more the screen will remain on, greater will be the battery consumption.

Nokia Dual SIM Mobiles in Pakistan [Prices & Specs]

Nokia recently announced four new models of CSeries Dual SIM Mobiles targeting the audience in developing countries. Couple of this CSeries mobiles support Dual SIM Feature, and other two are good for multimedia lovers.

Nokia C1-00 Dual SIM

Nokia C1-00 is specifically different from other two sets in term of different features. For instance, it has a 1.8″ 128 x 160 pixel display and a modernized Series 30 interface. The Nokia C1-00 is particularly designed for making phone calls and sending SMS messages as there is found no data connectivity on this handset.

Nokia C1-00 features “Double SIM” as it contains two internal SIM slots. The user can switch or swap between SIMs by using a menu. Remember, at a time, only one SIM is active. This feature of Nokia C1-00 makes it different from “Dual SIM” handsets, where two SIMs are active at any one time. One such example is Nokia C2.

Other features of C1-00 include the battery time of over 48 days, which is the longest standby time ever on any Nokia phone. The C1-00 talk time is 12 hours. It can store up to 500 phonebook entries and 250 text messages. Besides these, it features a powerful flashlight, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and FM radio. This phone uses the Symbian Series 30 interface to run.

Nokia C1-00 comes in four different colors, i.e. light grey, green, blue and red. It features a full color display. This phone is 73 grams in weight and 15 mm thin.

Dealing With Mobile Threats in Memory

Many of the threats that infected personal computers have now turned their attention toward mobile devices. A new way to detect malware on mobile devices is presented by a leading security researcher. By this new approach we can catch even unknown threats without draining the battery and slowing the processing power of mobile devices.

Scientists are conducting research to identify ways to protect mobile devices from malicious software. Markus Jakobsson, a principal scientist at Xerox PARC and the person behind the new malware detection technology says, “Traditional ways to protecting personal computers against threats doesn’t translate well to smart phones.”

Most of the antivirus programs take a lot of processing power to compare new files against a huge library of virus signatures while working in the background. Jakobsson says, mobile devices lack this processing power and continual scanning can also drains the batteries. According to his approach there must be a central server which monitors a device’s memory to find out any signs of infection.

There are two types to memories used by mobile devices: Random-access-memory (RAM), which is used by active programs and secondary storage, which has a slow access time and holds data not currently in use. Shutting off all non-vital applications, such as a browser or an e-mail app, Jakobsson’s system would check the device, and at this point only the operating system and the detection software would be running.

If malware is present, it will need to use some RAM to infect the device. So the central server contacts the detection software to check if malware is using RAM by measuring how much memory is available. It does this by completely filling the remaining memory space with random data and checking the amount of data needed against an image of the memory that was created when the device was malware-free.

Any malware running at this point would be revealed. Jakobsson says, the malware could try to hide its presence by allowing the random data to overwrite it in RAM, but this would prevent it from taking any action. And if it tries to hide in the device’s secondary storage, this would slow the device’s response to the central server, revealing the existence of malware.

Nokia N86 8MP Click it! Competition Winners Announced

Karachi, 17^th February, 2010: Nokia has announced the results of the Nokia N86 8MP Click it! Competition and distributed prizes to the lucky winners of the competition.

Nokia N86 8MP Click it! Competition was launched by Brandsynario in collaboration with Nokia on 23^rd November 2009 and closed off on 23^rd January, 2010. The competition kicked-off from Brandsynario platform simultaneously in the three metros of Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Pakistan Mobile Subscribers Statistics Dec 2009

Pakistan is now in the list of fastest telecom growth countries. Calls rates are very low in Pakistan and this is one of many factors of this development. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released Mobile Service Providers statistics as on December 2009. There are 97,579,940 (97.6 Million) Mobile users with Mobile Density of 59.60% in Pakistan according to the report (Dec 09).

GSM service pioneer Mobilink stands first with 30,800,354 subscribers. Telenor on second with user base of 22,500,789 and Warid (18,847,315), Ufone (18,510,175), and ZONG (6,920,234) on 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. Overall all companies showed positive trend except Ufone whose user base declined in 2009 last quarter.

The growth rate is recorded 0.93% as compared to Nov 09, 0.83%.

The Handcase launched its mobile search system, called Gune www.handycase.com/gune
Gune is a system of meta-search, ie it searches the other websites and generates a single page of results, optimized for small screen phones and smartphones.

The websites consulted by the Gune are: Google and Bing. Unlike the websites of traditional meta-search of the Internet that use the same principle, Gune is only mobile search, and results in a single page, are displayed in lists of ten results per search engine, and offers both the top as at the end of each page, the search box. “The goal here was to optimize the time of the User and aims to provide a superior experience with search.” Explains Ricardo Garay, CEO Handcase.
