“‘Google” – Word of the Decade

Everyone who uses Internet must be familiar with Google and now we hear this word almost everyday. Whether in a movie, from a friend, or we say it ourselves. Why Google is so popular? The answer is simple…Google indexes pages faster than any other search engine. The word was being added into the dictionary a while ago and now, it got first rank on a poll as the word of the decade.

In the 20th annual words of the year voting, th American Dialect Society (americandialect.org) has declared the word ‘Google’ the word of the decade. Generally the term ‘Google’ is used for searching the Internet. It is a generic form of the Search Engine Google.


The word ‘Google’ has beaten many important words of ’00s, such as “9/11”, “blog”, “text”, “war on terror”, and “Wi-Fi”. Also the search engine “Google” itself is voted best website of the ’00s in a poll conducted by Web Users (webusers.co.uk).
