WordPress Down for 110 Minutes

Earlier today wordpress.com faced a downtime of 110 minutes which is said to be their biggest in four years. 10.2 million blogs were affected and according to Matt (founder of wordpress) this outage kept blogs from having 5.5 million pageviews.wp

People at wordpress are not sure what went wrong and caused such a huge downtime. They are still collecting the details. Speculations are that an unscheduled change to core router might have disturbed the network causing the downtime. This change caused automatic backup to fail between the two locations (San Antonio & Chicago).

Matt says: “All of your data was safe and secure, we just couldn’t server it”.

Currently they are trying to figure out the exact reason on how & what happened so that they can fix the problem to avoid anything like this in future.

“I hope it will be much longer than four years before we face a problem like this again”.
