Mobile Companies Will Share Their Towers

A long awaited and a brilliant tower sharing concept to overcome the ongoing recession in our country, the cellular companies of Pakistan have agreed upon this concept.

A decision has been made among all the cellular companies to make tower sharing obligatory if one of these two conditions is present:

  • For urban areas – the new BTS deployment should be in 100 meter radius of any existing site.
  • For rural areas – it should be in 500 meter radius.

Now due to the ongoing recession and particularly the power crisis, the cellular companies are eagerly looking into the tower sharing possibilities, which were overlooked in the past for multiple reasons.

Back in 2007-2008, the cellular firms first spoken about the tower sharing but, on the other hand some major players were kind of reluctant to share their towers. Now, as you all know that these cellular companies are somewhat similar in network strength, possibility has vastly increased for sharing tower and infrastructure.

These days, one of the leading expenses for these cellular companies is the fuel for un-interrupted power supply. This fuel expense for just one company can go as high as Rs. 250 million per year says, a senior official at Network Company.

It is expected that WLL companies will also follow the foot-steps of these cellular firms. A group is created that will urge the procedures for sharing towers for WLL companies operating in Pakistan.
