How to Fix ‘USB Device Not Recognized’ Error in Windows?

Sometimes a USB Flash Drive is not recognized by the computer system even if it was working perfectly before. Whenever you try to connect a USB Hard Drive to your system an error message saying ‘USB Device Not Recognized’ appears on the screen.

There are multiple reasons to this problem like Missing Computer Drivers, Incorrect driver versions of USB, Unrecognized Drive, No support for USB 2.0 or USB 3.0, Hardware Malfunction and Attached External Hubs. In order to fix this problem you need to open the Device Manager of your computer.

1. Go to My Computer than go to the Control Panel double click ‘System’ to open it

2. Now select ‘Hardware’ from the tabs and click the ‘Device Manager’ button, which is where you will get a list of all the recognized and Unrecognized Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

3. Next right click on the USB Port which shows you an error

4.now click on ‘Update Driver Software‘ button  which will show you a new window with options to ‘Automatically Search for Updated Driver Software‘ or else ‘Browse My Computer for Driver Software’. If you have a USB Drivers CD offered with the device you can select the second option if not select the Automatic Update option.

5. The above option will make Windows download the latest drivers for the USB Port and the device and make sure that the problem is fixed.

6. If this solution does not help you need to Power off the USB Device, Disconnect it and then restart your computer. Once it’s rebooted, again reconnect the device and this time the system would recognize it.

7. If this does not help then its time you should get the device checked for any issues or else upgrades your computer’s USB Ports with the latest hardware in the market.
