Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 Series Intervalometer

With the introduction of interval recording using video cameras, a whole new generation of shooters came up having the time lapse feature. Though interval recording was included in basic camcorders to the expensive ones, they were all problematic, or had technical difficulties that do not allow an adequate exploration of the technique. Iris settings and shutter speed were not enough to access the time lapse areas. Harbortronics, a company started by a person called Mark, has brought forth the Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000, which allows time lapse functions from a digital camera.

Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 is a small box in appearance, and once it is attached to the camera, it can be programmed for performing complex time lapse functions from your desktop, laptop or right in the field without a computer. It works with Nikon Coolpix cameras, and you can use the DigiSnap controller with DSLR Cameras like Pentax, Nikon and Olympus models, which are more sophisticated.

The camera can be connected to the Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 through a remote connector. The nine pin connector at the other end is used to connect to the computer for accessing more advanced processes. Connecting it to the computer is simple, and you can access the user menu, which allows you to set the DigiSnap according to your needs.

But, in case you need to program the unit quickly in the field, press timer button, hold it down and count the LED flashes, with each flash denoting one second of delay. For instance, if you want an exposure every fifteen seconds, then count fifteen flashes and release the button. Upon pressing your timer button again, it will start taking the sequence and proceed till you run out of space on your card, or run out of power in the camera battery, or run out of power in the DigiSnap battery. The DigiSnap battery lasts very long and is likely to run out of power only if you have been using it for months together. Programming in the field is easy for up to one minute, and for longer periods, using the onboard program on a desktop or laptop is simpler. Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 can be configured for using a Palm device, rendering convenience as you can use it around the field quite easily.

Sequences generated by Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 depend on the camera which is used for completion of the interface. It is natural for a higher quality camera to give a higher quality capture. The standard 5-8 Mp cameras will deliver special images which will integrate well into the video project without any hassle.

As an experienced time lapse photographer, I could create excellent clips using Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000. Certain sequences were much better than my expectations. Varying shutter speeds, camera positioning, picking subjects all add to the sequences. A DVD accompanying the unit has several interesting clips to help you explore more. Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 comes at an affordable cost, and including a Harbortronics DigiSnap 2000 series intervalometer to your equipment kit is surely worth it.
