LG 47LD520 120HZ LCD TV

The TV does excellent processing of 1080p videos at 24fps and has very good colors in bright area. The matte screen looks good under bright lighting and the classy design is really wonderful. Also the calibration options are very good and picture settings can be customized very well. But the uniformity of pictures is poor and also the black level performance is not appreciable. The dejudder processing is not smooth enough and you can not discern the advantages of 120Hz. Though it has got lot of adjustability and fine-tuning options, the shortcoming in picture quality makes this TV less desirable when compared to other LCD TVs from brands like Panasonic and Samsung.

The LD520 is the least expensive series from LG with 120HZ processing with 47-inch screen size and price tag falling below 1000 dollar mark. But there is tough competition in the 120Hz market and LG can not withstand the similar price TV from Sony and Samsung.  The TV comes with a silver accent strip at bottom and swivel stand for ergonomic support.

The panel depth is four inches and width of bezel is 2.63 inches. It has glossy black finish and accent chrome strip present at frame’s bottom edge which gives an aesthetic look to the TV. The bottom edges and side is somewhat thicker which gives a bulky appearance to TV when compared with Sony KDL EX5000 and Samsung LVC630. The remote control does not have any backlit keys and there are totally 43 keys in it. It is quite comfortable to use, but lack of onscreen explanations makes it difficult for users to understand. The menu system is very extensive and there are lots of picture controls and poor responsiveness to changes in settings makes it very annoying to use.

The TV does not have AV/HDMI connection and LED backlighting. The TV is also not compatible for 3D viewing which is not expected for this price range. But it has Dejudder for smooth processing but the performance of the dejudder is not good enough. There are USB ports for streaming photos and music from flash drives or external hard disks. There are 6 HD aspect ration and five standard definition aspect rations. Also, there are two gamma presets and three color temperature presets. It has got seven customizable picture modes which is very great.

There are three HDMI inputs including one in side and two at the back, one component video input, one RF input, 1 USB port and one VGA style PC input. There is a headphone jack at side and an RS 232 port at the rear side apart from The picture quality is acceptable but not that impressive. You can find lot of calibration settings to adjust the picture. The power consumption is somewhat higher than similar models from Samsung and Sony.  If you are looking for affordable 120HZ LCD TV with basic features, then you can choose this TV.
