2.5 Billion Android Apps Already Downloaded

From the latest statistics, it would appear as if the two-year old Android market is now catching up with Apple’s App Store.

According to Softpedia, the Android market is now offering a number of more than 200,000 applications and games for download, which compares good with the just more than 300,000 applications and games for the Apple operating system.

Softpedia said that Apple’s App Store may still be in the first position for applications for devices such as the iPhone, iPod and iPad, but Android is still going up and seems to be accelerating.

Currently, Android applications are being downloaded at a number of around 103 downloads per second. The total download of Android applications already surpassed the 2.5 billion mark.

It was said that Android applications may overtake Apple in 2014, but some analysts say it could be sooner.
