44% of all Online Sharing Happens on Facebook

According to a trend analysis report from AddThis, a number of 44% of all online sharing happens on Facebook.com. The statistics revealed that last year, a number of 33% of all online sharing happened on Facebook, which is an indication of its continued steamrolling growth.

Looking at the statistics from AddThis, there is not even a clear second place. Following Facebook is around 300 alternatives that are competing with the giant.

Google, Twitter, and StumbleUpon are some of the competing services who experienced significant growth when it comes to users sharing information on the Internet, according to the statistics. It was mentioned that Google’s Gmail, with only a third of Facebook’s members, grew at a volume of 1.4 times faster than Facebook.

StumbleUpon found itself in a growth rate of 254% sharing over the last year, while services such as Myspace, Friendster and Favorites experienced a plummet in sharing numbers.

The data, however, does not include numbers of information shared through Facebook’s “Like” button. This is surprising as the Facebook’s “Like” service, introduced earlier the year, has become a massive hit around the Internet. With this data included, the statistics may look quite different.
