Apple iPad Becomes the Fastest

No matter where Steve Jobs is located while you read this, it is more than likely that he is beaming smiles with the good news everywhere of the significant milestones covered by the sales of the iPad. Though, a lot of people predicted poor showing in the market for the iPad, the device which was released barely seven months ago has become the consumer electronic with the highest sales rate of all times.

Within its first 80 days of release for retail sales, over 3 million units were sold out, surpassing the 2007 Apple iPhone which sold about 1 million units in its first quarter of release and the DVD player which sold a meager 350,000 units through its first year of release in the year 1996. As at today, latest figures indicate that the Apple iPad sold over 4.5 million units during the 3rd quarter of 2010.

Analysts have indicated that the ground covered by the iPad in terms of sales is unprecedented in the history of the consumer electronics and gadget industry, with estimated sales figures reaching US $9 billion in 2011. According to the CEO of Best Buy, a major electronics sales outlet in the United States, sales of the iPad has replaced over 50 percent of laptop sales previously made by the company.

The success of the Apple iPad has increased the interest of consumers and manufacturers in touch screen devices, with projections indicating that these tablets will be at the top of the electronics category in the coming years. Marketing chiefs of major operating system companies including Google’s Android, Microsoft’s Windows and Research in Motion (RiM) from Canada are all scrambling to get on to the devices of hardware manufacturers or even develop their own touch screen tablet. It is most likely that Apple will release a newer generation of its iPad in response to this buzz.

Though, most analysts accused Apple of trying to use the iPad to forcefully introduce a new category just above the smart phones but below the regular laptop when there was really no need for it, the response of consumers have nullified the veracity of this opinion. The iPad has become the most loved gadget for most technology savvy people, rarely leaving their sides. But, for the absence of a phone call facility, some consumers claim that the iPad would have been able to combine the full functionality of their smart phones and laptops.

Top on the line features sported by the iPad include its light weight at less than 2lbs, wireless LAN technology, 3G connectivity, virtual key pad, multi-document processing, support for several Apple applications, and very long battery life; reaching over 10 hours.
