DECT Phones

Communication has grown in leaps and bounds ever since the invention of the telephone. Before the invention of the telephone, the closest thing to a real time conversation between people from different sides of the globe was a telegram, and even these managed to ‘cross’ each other. A message ‘crosses’ another when another message is sent before a reply to the first message could be received or if two parties managed to send each other a message at approximately the same time. This is the one great disadvantage of non real-time conversations done over text, chat, or mails. Telephones eliminated this possibility since you’re actually talking to another party at the other end of the line in real time. The sound quality of the first telephones became poorer the further away you are from the person you’re talking to, but this problem was fixed eventually.

In nineteen fifty-six, the first cordless phone was invented by an African-American; Dr. Raymond P. Phillips, Sr. His patent was recognized only in the late eighties due to racial discrimination. A jazz musician by the name of Terri Pall followed suit in 1956 but her invention was not a hit because it only worked within a two mile radius. It wasn’t until nineteen sixty-six that the modern cordless phone was invented by George Sweigert.

Upon its first introduction to consumers, the modern cordless phone was plagued with poor sound quality as well as limited distance. It wasn’t until the invention of DECT phones that the sound quality showed remarkable improvement. DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology. All portable and cordless phones today use this technology. DECT phones can be mounted anywhere in your home. You can even several additional cordless handsets if you want to.

DECT phones function much in the same way as mobile phone, albeit at a smaller range of three hundred meters. A cabled line (a fixed telephone line) in a base station intercepts the radio waves that the DECT phones uses. The handset’s range is largely dependent on the phone’s capacity as well as the strength of the signal of the service provider in the vicinity. When a base station captures a call from outside its range, it transmits the call to the target through GSM technology.

Most DECT phones today incorporates the following features: fax, paging, voicemail, conferencing (two or three people having a three-way conversation at the same time), and international roaming. With international roaming, you can make and receive calls at a cheaper rate. DECT phones also have the ability to transfer as well as forwards calls. With DECT phones, you’ll have absolutely no interference from blue tooth, WiFi, video sending, and other wireless devices.

DECT phones run on batteries that you need to recharge every once in a while. Usual DECT phones work without recharging anywhere between eight to twenty-four hours. You’ll know that your phone needs to be recharged when you see a red light blinking on the handset or a small beeping sound during a call. DECT phones are recharged simply by putting it back in its cradle.
