Facebook the Most Visited Website in the US for 2010 – Beating Google

FaceBook.com became the first website surpassing Google.com as the most visited website in the United States for most of 2010.

According to an online analysis by Experian Hitwise, the social network site edged out Google.com with 8.9% of all U.S. visits between January and November 2010. The statistics placed Google in second place with 7.2% of all visits in the United States.

Within the span of only 6 years, Facebook has become the world’s largest online social community with more than half a billion registered users. And now, for the first time, it has surpassed the world’s most visited website in terms of U.S. traffic for the year. This is a clear indication of the popularity and growth in Facebook.

In 2008 and 2009 Google topped the first spot as most visited site in the United States. In 2007 the top spot was claimed by MySpace.com, which now ranks at number 7.

The statistics, however, revealed that if all Google’s properties are considered, which include Youtube.com and Gmail.com, Google will claim the top spot as the most visited website at 9.9% between January and November 2010. Facebook will follow at 8.9% and Yahoo.com, with all its properties ranks third at 8.1%.
