G Tablet Running on Android 2.2 Unveiled by Viewsonic

ViewSonic seems to be churning out tablet touch screen devices with greater ease nowadays. You will remember that the company released the 10-inch screen ViewPad 100 not too long ago. We have word now that another tablet is in the offing, with plans to release it soon.

The new device being talked about is christened the G Tablet, and also runs on the Android operating system. Though, it takes Android a step further when compared to the ViewPad, because the G Tablet runs on the latest Android 2.2 Froyo, but lacks the dual boot option found in the ViewPad. This is surely bad news for those seeking more Windows plus Android tablet options, though they might take solace in having the latest Froyo.

The power house of the G Tablet will be an N-Vidia Tegra 2 ARM Cortex A9 processor operating at 1GHz with a RAM of 1 gigabyte to handle operations. Note that the G tablet’s processor is a generation ahead of the Cortex A8 found in the Apple iPad. At 10 inches, the touch screen will be the capacitive multi-touch type display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Internal storage capacity will be 16GB including an expandable micro SD card memory slot. Other features include the regular Wireless LAN capability at 802.11 b/g/n. The G Tablet also sports Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, integrated webcam at 1.3 mega pixels which is front facing, an in-built microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Additional features on this Android Froyo tablet include a SIM slot that can enable access on GSM Networks, a mini USB and mini HDMI port, 1 watt speakers which come in a pair and a proprietary G-light sensor. The tablet is also capable of handling full High Definition videos reaching 1080 pixels and the 3500mAh battery included is really powerful. The battery has a capability of running for 10-12 hours when fully charged.

In terms of competition, it can be said that the G Tablet has the capability to match up with the front runner in its class, that is, the Apple iPad. Its processor is a bit better than that of the iPad, giving for better gaming and HD video production. Also, its screen is a bit wider than that of the iPad when measured diagonally, resulting in a Wider Aspect Ratio, which makes for greater movie watching experience. T-Mobile and AT&T have also signed the tablet on to their American Networks.

Finally, to the pricing of the device which will be an important factor in its competitiveness. Current sources indicate that the G Tablet might be going for just above $500 with possible release before the end of October. We are sure that ViewSonic will think deeply about the pricing or competition will do the thinking for them.
