Keyboard Dock for Apple’s iPad

The minimalist and elegant design of the Apple’s iPad is its greatest buying factor. That stylish and sleek design of the iPad is the result of no physical keyboard in it. The iPad of Apple features a touch keyboard on the screen and hence the design looks so slender. Though with such a feature, esthetics of the device may be enhanced, using on-screen keys for a longer period in other-than sitting position, is seriously a problem in iPad. So here comes a solution for this problem, for people who cannot fare good-bye to manual or physical keyboard. A keyboard dock for the iPad of Apple is available now, which costs you $69 and holds the device upright providing a complete keyboard and actual buttons.

Dashing design

Keyboard dock of iMac looks similar to that of Apple’s iPad. Basically it constitutes a wireless keyboard, fully parted white keys, brushed aluminum shell and compact of 0.5” x 11” x 4.5” HWD. For more comfort, the keyboard is tilted slightly forward. There is a slot for power adaptor at the dock’s back.

There is a small quick start guide along the side of keyboard dock. A power adaptor of 10 watts is needed to use the device and it is bundled along with the Apple’s iPad. A USB cable which is detachable is present in the adapter, which can directly connect the computer to Keyboard Dock. Other accessories such as Camera connection kit of iPad etc can be connected to the dock of keyboard.

With the help of a 30-pin connector iPad can be connected to keyboard dock, to the board at the bottom. The iPad will be charged when it is connected to keyboard dock, but this facility is not available when it is docked horizontally. The iPad is positioned in a comfortable angle by this keyboard dock while viewing photos and videos, but will be more comfortable when viewed in landscape manner. This problem is also faced by the stand-alone dock of Apple, which costs around $29. An accessory third part dock which has swinging arm will be great when docked to iPad, as it allows altering the orientation of iPad.

Typing tests

It features a very compact keyboard of low profile and it takes some time to get accustomed to this keyboard, especially when you are shifting from the Ergonomic keyboard of Microsoft. The buttons on the keyboard are spaciously placed and sufficient travel on the keyboard is provided. It has got various keys such as, home key, which allows you to go to the home page of iPad, control key for screen brightness, search key, keyboard key which allows you to shift to the onscreen keyboard of iPad, key to display photo slideshow, control keys of forward and backward, volume control keys, mute key and lock key which helps in turning off the device and all these keys are placed from left to right. Number pad is not seen on this keyboard and it is a measure to make the keyboard look compact. On the whole working experience on keyboard dock is more comfortable compared to onscreen keyboard on iPad.

One disadvantage is that adjusting the space between the screen and eyes is little problematic. Except such minor problems, keyboard dock for iPad is an innovative solution.
