Qtpfsgui Freeware

Qtpfsgui Freeware is used to create High Dynamic Range photography or HDR photography, which is a technique employed to bring vividness and representation in photographs. The sensor of your digital camera is capable of reproducing limited dynamic range according to what you see with your eyes. HDR processing compensates this limitation by merging images namely, an underexposed, a properly exposed and an overexposed. Therefore details that are usually not visible are now clear.

Qtpfsgui freeware, a HDR image processing software can be downloaded and installed for Windows, Linux and OS X. You need three photographs of the subject, an underexposed photo by two stops, an overexposed photo by two stops and a properly exposed photo. A tripod will help in proper alignment of the three images. Use the ‘Exposure Value (EV) button’ on the camera to adjust the exposure. An ‘auto-bracketing’ feature is available in high- end point and shoot cameras as well as in SLRs to render automatic adjustment of the three exposures.

Import these three photographs to your computer, and open the Qtpfsgui freeware. Select ‘New Hdr’ icon, and click ‘Select Images’ so as to select your three images that are to be combined. Mark the box named ‘Auto Align Images’ and select ‘Median Threshold Bitmap’ option from your drop-down menu. Thus, automatic alignment of the images is accomplished, prior to the merging process. In the subsequent steps, you can opt to manually align the photographs, and apply customized profiles to the HDR image. Default settings work well enough.

As normal monitors are unable to display the complete tonal range for HDR images, you require tone-mapping to colorize the HDR image for making it viewable. This is done by turning the HDR back to normal range to view the image, along with preserving the details in the underexposed and overexposed regions of the photograph. Click the icon labeled ‘Tone Map the HDR’, and select from the algorithms built into the Qtpfsgui freeware, and apply them. Algorithms such as ‘Reinhard 02’ produce subtler changes, while others such as ‘Dargo’ produce surrealistic effects.

Your image is still not visible. You can finish, and view your final image, by exporting the photograph as a ‘jpg’ file using the ‘Save As’ option. Save in your preferred location with the extension as ‘.jpg’. Then you can navigate to see the exported image and review the outcome. You will see a noticeable difference compared to the original image, and sometimes a dramatic change is rendered.
