Samsung SGH-a187 GoPhone

The Samsung SGH-A187 Go phone comes with elegant design, 16GB extendable memory, interactive instant messaging and e-mail features. But the keyboard and navigation toggle is not comfortable to use. The Samsung SGH-A187 is a very good text messaging phone but some occasional inconsistencies with keyboard is annoying, apart from that it is a decent choice for its price tag. The phone comes with 79.99 dollars without any binding contract and it is a mid-range messaging phone which has QWERTY keyboard.

Apart from multimedia and text messaging, there is a music player, web access, instant messaging, e-mail client and a microSD card slot of 16GB capacity. The pone has a candy bar design and is comfortable to hold in hands. The keyboard is somewhat inconsistent and occasionally the response is poor and keystrokes are not translated to the screen immediately.

The phone has subtle curves, is compact and has glossy black face and Prussian blue color combination. The dimensions are 4.3×2.3×4.7 inches and it weights 3.1 ounces feeling very comfortable in hands. You can easily carry it in your pockets and it is compact enough to hold in your hands. The phone has QVGA display of 2 inches size with color support for around 262,000 colors and resolution of 176×220 pixels. The screen is bright and colorful but the text is not as crisp as expected. You can find the navigation array below the display and 4-directional toggle along with a Select button at the center. You find the Back/Clear button and short cut for text message on either size of center button. Also the End and Talk buttons are somewhat elevated making it easy to press them.

The QWERTY keyboard is compact and keys are ridged and raised for better grip and comfort. The phone has camera trigger, volume rocker and micro USB port for charing on its left and right spines. On the rear side is a 1.3 megapixel camera  while the 16GB micro SD card slot can be accessed by removing the back cover.

The address book capacity is 750 which include multiple phone number, notes, photos, a polyphonic ringtone and email-id for each contact. Other basic applications like stop watch, timer, world clock, calculator, noted, audio recorder, alarm clock, calendar etc are available with the phone. There is also a music player and Bluetooth support. You can also purchase wallpapers, ringtones and games from online storefront. You can enjoy instant messaging with Windows Live messenger, Yahoo, AOL etc, text and multimedia messaging and exchange e-mails through a dedicated application. The camera quality is quite acceptable for the price range. The calls are somewhat fuzzy and there is white noise observed sporadically but the speaker phone is very clear and distinct. The talk time is six hours and standby time is 12.5 days which is very above average. Overall, this phone is a great choice for budget customers looking for text messaging phone with basic features.
