Skype Launches Application for Android Mobiles

PC to PC calls are boon those who are dependent on conversing overseas and long distances on a regular basis. With every office desk occupied with the latest version of computer, it is even more convenient to make that call from your workstation then to resort to a telephone or mobile. Needless to say, PC to PC calls are free of cost. The user only pays the monthly internet fees and avails a host of other offers that come along with it.

Skype was one of the pioneer software applications that allow its user to make voice calls over the internet. For a desktop or a laptop, a headset and microphone is all that is needed besides an internet connection to make a call via Skype application to another PC. The application uses a proprietary audio codec for the voice call feature.

So far the application is available only on Android 2.1 OS and for those using a lower version of Android may have to update their operating system to avail the Skype application facility on their mobiles. The Skype application is also available on iPhone by Apple Inc. and Symbian mobiles by Nokia. Skype users can download the software from the Skype website and also can purchase it from the Android market. Indian Skype users can make voice calls over Wi-Fi network and also on mobile data connection services like GPRS and EDGE. The internet usage from the mobile would be charged accordingly by the respective service providers.

With other applications such as Facebook and internet surfing available on cell phones, it is easier to log in, update and keep in touch with friends and folks at all times. The internet boom on the cell phones has made it easier for people to not miss out on work related updates at anytime. The internet boom has allowed people to download latest movies, songs and games on their PC and now also on their cell phones. One can live life full circle while getting entertained and without missing the fun with a fully loaded, functional cell phone in one palm.
