Acer Unleashes Iconia W500 for $550 with Windows 7, Fusion

Acer chairman J.T. Wang said that the company is serious towards the efforts for its tablet. Acer recently announced its Iconia Tab A500 and within few days after opening the preorders for it, the company has released its Iconia W500. This is powered by a 1GHZ AMD C-50 Ontario APU and Windows 7 Home Premium rather than Tegra 250 and Android 3.0. The Iconia W500 also features Radeon HD 6250.

At B&H, it is listed with a price tag of $549 and shipping date mentioned is April, 15. The Iconia W500 comes with a 10.1-inch 1280×800 LED-backlit multitouch display, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a 32 GB SSD and also with two 1280×1024 webcams and built-in microphone. Connectivity features are 2 in 1 card reader, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI-out, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.1lb/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It comes with a three-cell battery having a battery life of six hours. It is reasonably less than what we see in A500 that claims maximum of 10 hours battery life.

The Iconia W500 is a good choice for the people who prefer to have a Windows-based device. You can double the RAM and storage capacities for an additional $100. The Iconia W500 also allows the user to add a hardware keyboard dock for heavier productivity sessions. Comparatively, the Iconia W500 is much better choice for workers than Asus’ Eee Pad Transformer that is available at $550 and runs Honeycomb.
