Android: More Than 3 Billion App Downloads and 350,000 Daily Device Activations

There is no doubt that Android Market of Google has shown up some remarkable signs of growth and is still making a steady progress as over 3 billion apps have already been downloaded along with 350,000 devices activated on regular basis, according to reports.

“We’re activating over 350,000 Android devices every day,” said Google’s Jeff Huber during the company’s financial conference call last night. “Android Market is taking off too — over 3 billion apps have been installed, up 50 per cent in just the last quarter.”

These are surely big numbers and if we are not misinterpreting them, they suggest that Android Market grew from 2 billion app downloads to 3 billion in just a span of three months which means during the last three months about 11.1 million apps were downloaded on daily basis. These statistics are enough to compare Android with its competitors in the world of smartphone software.

Back in January, Apple released a report saying that Apple App Store had got 10 billion downloads just three months after achieving 7 billion downloads milestone. This means that Apple got 1 billion downloads each month with almost 33 million daily downloads.

In March, RIM announced that its Blackberry App World had achieved 3 million app downloads each day. The Nokia on the other hand earlier this week released a report according to which its OVI Store is getting 5 million app downloads each day.

Apparently, it seems that Android Market is going to give a tough time to its competitors in the future. Currently, its daily downloads are yet third to that of Apple’s. The progress of Android Market is quite steady and we can expect the rise in its market value in the future because we know that Google’s store isn’t only the place from where people can download the Android Apps.

In a conference call, Google executives stick to the belief that Android tablets have got some big surprises for its customers to be revealed this year. Huber said in one of his statement, “Android has some great products coming along.”

He further elaborated:

“The Motorola Xoom is the first device that’s come along… It was the product of the show at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. I think you’ll see a lot of other products coming along and a lot of innovation in the market around tablets and that format,” Huber mused.
