Apple Aims at Hybrid E-Ink/Video Display for Next iOS Devices

Yesterday, we have told you about the Apple’s intentions of introducing a secondary display in its next generation iOS devices. Today again we have come across another patent that is all about the primary display of the next generation iPhone. According to the patent, the new display will base on hybrid of e-ink and standard LCD.

The first thing that come in mind that why Apple opted for an old technology e-ink rather than sticking to any other new technology. The Apple may likely to answer this as e-ink displays offer much better readability even in the bright sunlight. This technology has already been used in some of the older eReaders such as Kindle. Another positive point of using e-ink technology is that it imposes less stress on eyes, especially where longer reading sessions are desired. This new smart primary display is so designed that it will offer work out on its own depending on the content to offer a particular display. Well, this display in fact will first split the screen in quadrants and later use multiple display technologies on each of the split quadrants.

One thing is clear from these two patents that Apple main focus is on the display technology for its next generation iOS devices. All this battle start from 4″ display that supposedly stretched round the edges, then we heard about the secondary display and now we are having the reports of enhanced hybrid primary display.
