Apple Working on Enhanced Traffic And Turn-By-Turn Navigation Features

Apple iPhone and iPads 3G are heavily in news after a revelation that they are collecting data from users anonymously. In a recent Q&A session related to the same news, Apple told that company is collecting data from iOS devices to imrpove traffic based service.

Q: What other location data is Apple collecting from the iPhone besides crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower data?

A: Apple is now collecting anonymous traffic data to build a crowd-sourced traffic database with the goal of providing iPhone users an improved traffic service in the next couple of years

No one knows if this is somehow related to a new “turn-by-turn navigation” feature, but Apple is engaging experts in navigation systems and mapping since 2009. Google also launched a navigation software for Andriod sometime same as Apple, and we are yet to see another release of that for iOS.

If Apple comes up with a built-in navigation app that would definitely boost their sales. It’s been almost 2 years since they are trying to do that but the thing to see is if they don’t take another couple of years to implement this.
