iPhone 5 to Get 12.6 Megapixel Camera

You might have been familiar with the name OmniVision, a company famous for producing out-of-the-box digital imaging solutions. It was the same company that provided Apple with the back camera sensor for iPhone 4. Recently, the company has achieved a new milestone in the form of producing new sensors named OV12825, especially designed for the cameras of next generation smartphones. The production of this latest sensor will begin in early June this year and it will offer 12.6-megapixel resolution together with 1080p video recording on 60fps.

However, we haven’t got any reports of the companies placing orders for this newly developed sensor. Taking a hint from the past, we cannot rule out the possibility that Apple may approach OmniVision once again for the supply of these sensors for its smarphones. Besides this we have heard earlier that Apple is planning to drop OmniVision for Sony’s 8 megapixel sensor.

Analyzing the entire situation and Apple’s previous consultation with OmniVision for iPhone 4 quality image sensors may give us a clue that this time too Apple will turn towards the same company to acquire OV12825. If everything happens as we are hoping for, the iPhone 5 will certainly be an ideal smartphone for photographers.
