Twitter Launches Text Ads

Twitter has always been busy in improving their website. Nowadays, Twitter is taking a trial of sponsored text-ads on their website that appear right underneath the ‘Trends’ section. At first text-ads used to promote Twitter apps and other services regarding the Twitter ecosystem. This is however no more the practice.

The recently launched new ad format from Twitter offers a website URL that directly takes you to the advertiser’s website along with a respective hashtag (a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets) so as to provide you with related tweets on Twitter search.

What make us think seriously about this new format is that at no stage it shows the links given are advertisements or sponsored links. The only way through which we can be able to find out the truth is through HTML source of the Twitter website (class = promo). Another interesting thing about this new format is that Twitter doesn’t use nofollow for such ads. This is not of a big concern for the fact that ads appear only in the timeline of logged-in Twitter users.
