Android Market To Support Multiple APKs For Different Devices

Android Market is all set to offer regularized APKs for different devices. At present only a universal version of the APK file can be installed by the users from Android Market. The users have often complained that the downloaded app does not fit in the resolution base or reacts differently than intended. As a result, Android Market will now feature apps along with the specific APKs for a particular type of phone. This will boost end user confidence and credibility too. The Android Market folks must be a busy lot as they’ll be required to categorize apps as per the handsets for millions of apps.

Multiple APKs will make the life of Android users a lot simpler and streamlined as they can be assured of a specific file to be downloaded for their handset capability. The users will not be required to lose their hair on getting a compatible version for their device.

It is not yet indicated by Google as to when can they expect the proposed changes to be implemented in the system. But, prima-facie it looks like that the propagation of the changes might take a month or two at least. Android Market apps are closely competing with App Store apps and will eventually beat the total cumulative count on App Store.
