Citrix Acquires Cloud.com for More Than $200 Million

It is reported that Citrix Systems is acquring Cloud.com for more than $200 million. According to TechCrunch, the deal should be finalized today and expected to be within $200 – $250 million. If you are not sure what exactly Cloud.com does, it gives companies their own private EC2 like infrastructure. The company is not very old. It built a huge client-base who need infrastructure like Zynga, Tata, and many other unknown tech companies in just few years. The companies behind Cloud.com are Redpoint Ventures, Nexus Capital and Index Ventures.

The question now is, why they would sell a company that is performing so well. Companies try their best to build-up and sometimes it takes ages but still they worth less than $100 million. This is obviously a very rare deal but who are we to judge.

Redpoint Ventures is surely enjoying a very good year. Clearwell was purchased by Symantec for whooping $390 million. Qihoo went public and now has $2.5 billion market capitalization. Home Away is another venture by Redpoint Ventures, which went public and is now worth $3.3 billion. Responsys was also opened for public and is now worth $760 million.
