Microsoft Hit By Slow PC Sales

Microsoft’s supremacy in the PC segment is under question after it registered sluggish profits and PC equipment sales. The slow market performance is mainly attributed to the stiff competition it is receiving from Apple and other niche manufacturers. Microsoft’s approach has been myopic and their solutions aren’t providing much value to the consumers. As a result, the customer churn is high amongst the loyal customers too. The mobile based offerings of Apple topped up with now their iCloud solution has made their offerings more intriguing for the consumers. The slow PC sales are also attributed to the fact that customers now prefer sleek and slim devices. It is the tablet market segment which is booming with fresh investments and will keep on inviting customers from all leagues.

The tablets and mobile devices offer similar and at times higher utility than a PC. The PC makers should either, innovate their products to meet the customer expectations or hit the tablet market segment with dedicated offerings. Microsoft’s guidance on next quarter financial numbers looks gloomy too. The supplementary product lines from Microsoft such as Xbox and similar solutions aren’t doing well too.

The focus of the globe has shifted from large sized PC’s to more efficient smart phones and tablets. Microsoft should essentially boost their sales by introducing similar league products rather than banking on PC sales to hike up.
