Amazon Launches Kindle Fire Tablet for $199

You must be aware of Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer which unveils its first tablet computer at its press event in New York. The Kindle Fire is an Amazon’s attempt to give contender to the Apple’s iPad.

The price for this 7-inch tablet is set to be $199 by Amazon far less than Apple’s cheapest iPad which stands at $499. According to Seattle-based Company, the Kindle Fire will run on Google’s Android software and is a high-end version of the Kindle electronic-book reader. In addition to this, Amazon also launched the touchscreen version it e-reader called the Kindle Touch.

The CEO Jeff Bezos is pretty much confident about the bright future of Amazon tablet. He said that the company will take benefit of its dominance in e-commerce so as to make its tablet a real competitor of Apple’s iPad which other companies including Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) and Research In Motion Ltd failed to do so with their tablets.

An analyst at Wedge Partners Corp. in New York, Mr. Brain Blair said:

Amazon is really the only other guy, the only other potential tablet player that has a similar offering to what Apple has. If you look across their product offerings, they have content that none of the other tablet makers currently have because they have content on the media side.

However, one cannot deny the fact that the Kindle Fire lacks the appeal of Apple’s iPad. Although, it can contend with the iPad in terms of access to media content, lacking certain features including camera, microphone and 3G wireless network connectivity, it may not be able to draw people who are enticed by iPad’s larger screen and more than willing to pay for additional features like video chat.

Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co. in San Francisco in an interview said:

“The Amazon tablet is not necessarily a direct competitor to the iPad,” further added, “Another version of the Kindle may debut next year with more features to directly compete with Apple. At the moment, “the price point is the headline rather than the functionality.”

The Kindle Fire will debut on November 15th, while the Kindle Touch will be available from November 21th, according to Amazon. However, at present, customers can have a basic version of Kindle e-reader just for $79 along with two other touchscreen readers for $99 and $149 with 3G wireless network connectivity.
