The curved glass displays are not much sought-after at this point. However, we still have a single example of a smartphone that features a curved display, popularly known as Contour Display. Yes, you guessed it right; we are talking about Google Nexus S which is the only smartphone at the moment with curved touchscreen. Until now, majority of the smartphone manufacturers believed the curved display technology the only way to gain competitive advantage over the Apple, but the fact is Apple is also showing some serious concerns in curved displays for its portable devices.

DigiTimes stated:

Suppliers of the non-Apple camp are working on products with curved cover glass in attempts to gain a competitive edge in the handheld device market dominated by Apple, sources in the glass industry said.

But Apple reportedly also has bought glass polishing equipment for its suppliers in preparation for the production of devices fitted with curved cover glass.

The major cover glass suppliers are Lens Technology, Fuji Crystal and G-Tech. Out of the these three major suppliers, Lens Technology and Fuji Crystal supplies cover glass for iPhones, while G-Tech deals with the iPad.

We have heard similar news back in May as well disclosing some similar intentions from Apple regarding curved displays. This was the reason that some rumors even suggested that the next generation iPhone will launched with curved display.

But now it is clear that iPhone 5 will not feature curved display nor Apple has any intentions to introduce curved displays this year, but iPhone 6 may launch with a curved display.
