Facebook Confirms 800 Million Users at f8 Conference

Facebook – the largest social networking giant in the world claims yesterday at f8 conference that it now has over 800 million active users. These are not the numbers of registered users, but the users who have logged in during the past one month.

This has been confirmed in f8 developer conference where the Saturday Night Live actor Adam Samberg while mocking Mark Zuckerberg on the stage proclaimed that Facebook has made off 800 million users. The Adam Samberg started off on the stage with jeering statement like ‘I’m not really friends with these people’ and ‘the slowpoke’ before he was replaced by Mark Zuckerberg who held the stage to address keynote.

These figures are certainly not eye-popping at least when we talk about the social networking giant. Although, these statistics are not unexpected but certainly surprising because we are not expecting these numbers this early as back in July Facebook proclaimed to reach 750 million users and the current 800 million mark suggests that 50 million users joined Facebook in a matter of 75 days, stunning growth, isn’t?

The most impressive fact is that these figures are not just the signups, but active users who have logged at least once in last 30 days or so. Tremendous job!

Originally, Facebook began its journey as a side project by Mark Zuckerberg along with couple of his classmates while studying at Harvard. Once he realized the worth of Facebook, he quit college turned this project what is before us today – the world most popular social networking platform. Following the background of Facebook, the 2010 best movie ‘The Social Network’ appeared on the scene.

Facebook has introduced a lot of new features in recent few days including higher-resolution photos, a reworked news feed, smart friend lists and a Subscription button, while f8 also brought a bundle of new features and improvement for their users. Looking at these new features and improvements, we can expect these numbers to further increase in coming months.

However, it is important to mention here that the success of the company base on innovative features and not just revising the existing options and features taken from other platforms including Google+ and Twitter.

Facebook is playing its card very tactfully and keeping the users’ interest alive in their social network. Hope Facebook won’t disappoint its users like MySpace and Orkut.
