Amazon Announces French-Language E-reader and Kindle Store

Amazon is pretty busy for last month or so. It recently introduced Kindle Fire and now we have come to know that Amazon has introduced a French-language version of its Kindle e-reader along with Kindle Store. It is the first example when any retailer launched a dedicated language option for any country. The E Ink e-reader is in fact an entry-level French-language version of the recently launched $79 Kindle touch. It is available for pre-order on the Amazon’s French website for €99 ($133). It features Wi-Fi connectivity, but lacks 3G and touchscreen options.

There are over 825,000 books in French Kindle Store’s database and over 30,000 are in French language including all 28 L’Express bestsellers together with hundreds of graphic novels and over 4,000 classics in French. The readers will also be able to access the database of English-language ebooks. Using the Direct Publishing Program, the independent authors will now able to sell their books directly to the Amazon French Kindle Store.

The French Kindle features a D-pad control system that will allow users to easily navigate the on-screen keyboard. Compared to its previous version, the new Kindle is lighter and smaller.

With this French Kindle, you can also purchase or subscribe the popular French newspapers and magazines, such as Le Monde, Les Enchos and Le Figaro.

Amazon is now taking pre-orders for its new French Kindle and shipment is scheduled for October 14th.
