Everything You Need to Know About Apple’s Big Day – Let’s Talk iPhone

As reported earlier, Apple held its media event ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ on Tuesday at its local headquarter in Cupertino. Apple announced some significant products in this event. However, there might be an element of disappointment for all those who were anticipating the next generation iPhone 5, which was not there to be announced.

Above all, this is the first mega event for the newly assigned CEO Tim Cook, who made his first major announcement in the form of new iPhone 4S. The new iPhone is pretty much like its previous iteration, but it is a whole new thing from the inside. The new iPhone has a new processor, better camera and improved display colors. Interestingly, it also understands the human speech.

Apart from new iPhone, Apple also announced the pricing details, new partner carriers, the iPod and iOS 5. Here is a brief overview of what Apple has announced in its Tuesday’s media event at Cupertino, so that you have a better idea of new products by Apple.

The iPhone 4S – the major announcement of Tuesday’s event was the new iPhone 4S that seems exactly the same like its predecessor, but the difference lies inside. It features a new A5 dual-core processor, a better camera, displays more vibrant colors, and an improved antenna. The Vice President Phil Schiller said that the new iPhone is seven times faster than its previous iteration. It has also got a dual CDMA/GSM chip for different networks. A 16GB model will be offered at $199, while $299 will be set for 32GB model. The pre-orders will be open by October 7th and the shipment will commence from October 14th.

Siri (The Intelligent Voice Assistant) – it is a new iPhone 4S feature that enables you to activate voice on steroids. Apple’s VP Scott Forstall presented an onstage demo of the new ‘intelligent assistant’ service. On asking the question “What is the weather like today?” to the iPhone 4S, it responded with weather forecast. Furthermore, the service is also capable of reading messages, search Wikipedia, set a reminder, search Google maps, and make a calendar appointment and much more.

Find My Friends App – Apple also announced an interesting app for new iPhone called the ‘Find My Friends’. The app is similar to Google’s Latitude but with exceptions. Unlike Google’s Latitude that allows you to find wide circle of people you know, the Apple’s app confines itself to the close circle of friends or family. This app may be helpful for parents to keep an eye on their children by tracking their locations, but kids may don’t like at because of added surveillance.

Apple Cuts its 8GB iPhone 3GS Price to $0 – Apple announced in the media event that now customers can have an iPhone 3GS for free with a new two-year carrier contract. The announcement was made by Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of worldwide product marketing at Apple. The customers can also purchase iPhone 4 for $99 under similar contract. The offer will be effective as soon as the iPhone 4S appears in the market.

Sprint Gets the iPhone 4S – In the media event, Apple announced that Sprint will get the new lot of iPhone, which means that Sprint has become the third wireless carrier in America to offer iPhone after AT&T and Verizon. According to reports, Sprint will invest $20 million in purchase of iPhone 4S irrespective of the fact whether it can sell them or not.

The new iPod Nano – Apple also announced its new iPod Nano as well in the event. The new iPod Nano features watch-like characteristics and relatively larger app icons. The new iPod Nano will be available with 16 different clock faces, including the popular Mickey as well as track runs. The worth noting point is that Apple designed it without introducing any extra sensors or devices.

iOS 5 is available for free on October 12 – The new iPhone 4S is scheduled to be launched on October 14th, but before that big launch, Apple will release its iOS 5 which will be available for free download from October 12th. Apple has already revealed the new features of new version of iOS back in June. Some of the prominent features include a new notification center, a folder for magazine and newspaper app subscriptions, BBM-like messaging, Twitter integration and a new to-do list app.
