Google to Announce Major Facelift for Gmail

An official video that was perhaps mistakenly posted to Google’s YouTube channel revealed that a new version of Gmail with a renewed appearance, redesigned conversation threads and enhanced search is to roll out soon to the public.

User Experience Designer for Gmail, Jason Cornwell, demonstrates the revamped version in the video. As soon as the Google Operating System blog spotted the video on Google’s YouTube channel, the video has been made private since then. However, they are not quick enough as a YouTube user crlsndrsjmnz downloaded the video and repost it on his channel.

A Gmail representative Andrea Freund when asked about the video said, ““Oops, you weren’t supposed to see that, stay tuned, we’ll be sharing more info on Gmail’s new look soon.”

Coming back to video, the Cornwell says in video, “We’ve been hard at work to update Gmail with a new look. We’ve completely redesigned the look and feel of Gmail to make it as clean, simple and intuitive as possible.”

After watching the whole video, we have breakdown some of the major features that you can expect to have in upcoming new version. To start with, it can expand dramatically to fit any window size; users will be able to adjust the size of label and chat areas; high-definition imagery will be in traduced in themes; conversation, also called email threads will get a new design with better readability; conversations will appear to you more as status updates; profile pictures will also be included in email threads; and in the end you will find the search more user-friendly.

This would have been a major facelift for Gmail since its debut. We are not yet sure when this new version will be rolled out to the world, but one thing is certain that it possibly be a most concentrated effort by Google to modernize as well as simplify the Gmail interface for the general email users.

It’s been quite a long time that Google is making over its Gmail services. It was back in June when Google released a first preview of Gmail theme as a part of its effort to revamp Gmail.
