Internet All Set to Welcome 100 Millionth .com Registration

Being a top-level domain, .com is on the brink of hitting a new milestone. Yes, the .com domain will soon get its 100 millionth registration on the Internet. Really a big achievement for world’s most favored domain. It makes up for 45% of all domain names on the Internet.

Although, it has not yet reached the milestone but it is not that far. There are 98 million registered .com domain names at the moment. It still needs 2 million to reach the milestone of 100 million. Registrar Stats provided us with a chart that clearly suggests that we are not far to reach 100 million landmark. The study of chart reveals that we reach the milestone by the end of this year. We can just wait and watch.

The .com domain first appeared in 1985 when the Domain Name System was introduced. Since its launch, it has been one of the most favored domains on the Internet.

The data provided in the graph is taken from different sources including Registrar Stats, VB.com and Verisign.

Compared to its early days, these numbers are certainly remarkable. It all started in mid-1980s and early 1990s even before the introduction of World Wide Web (WWW) after which the Internet become a global community.
