AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage App in Works for Mac

A recent report reveals that Apple is ready to introduce its two popular iOS features including, AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage, to Mac operating system X Lion.

9to5Mac, an online blog dedicated to Apple reports while citing “sources familiar with the future Mac OS X” who claim that the Mac OS X team at Apple is working on devising ways to make both technologies part of a future update of Lion may likely to become a part of future update of OS X Lion.

According to 9to5Mac:

Sources familiar with the future of Mac OS X say that AirPlay Mirroring and an iMessage application are currently in development. Although neither project may see the light of day, they are definitely on the table for release in future versions of OS X Lion.

AirPlay Mirroring is a feature based on Apple’s already existed AirPlay wireless audio/video streaming technology that enables users to stream their iPad 2’s screen to a TV display linked to Apple TV. If the Mac OS X team is able to bring this technology to OS X, it will work in the same way, except for the fact that it will stream your Mac screen to HDTV rather than iPad 2’s. Apparently, it application on Mac OS X doesn’t seem as interesting, but it can still be used in conference rooms and other meetings to utilize the technology. This can perhaps help boost the sales of $99 Apple TVs.

On the other hand, iMessage was introduced along with iOS 5 in June. It is an Apple’s response to famous services including Blackberry Messenger. With iMessage, iOS users can send texts, photos, videos over 3G or Wi-Fi on iOS 5 to each other. If it comes of Mac OS X Lion, the instant-messaging becomes way too practical for the people who prefer using Apple products. This will certainly bring an entirely new experience of instant-messaging.

We have included a video from Jan Michael Cart to give you a better understanding of how iMessage for OS X will actually work. Based on the concept, there will be a different app for iMessage and users will receive a notification of each instant-message on all devices supporting iMessage. They can use either Mac or iOS device to reply back to that instant-message.
