Windows Phone 7 Receives “Operating System of the Year” Award

Considering the achievements and success of the Microsoft, this year has been one of best for them. The company’s Xbox + Kinect are still sought-after like hotcakes. In addition to this, company’s future Windows 8 desktop OS is also expected to take the customers by surprise with its remarkable interface and features. Above all, Microsoft’s mobile OS has been declared as the “Operating System of the Year” at 2011 Know Your Mobile awards.

Microsoft has experienced many major setbacks during the last few years including the frailties of Internet Explorer and introduction of Windows Vista, which was a major PR disaster, disappointing many Windows enthusiasts who could not comprehend why the world’s largest software maker had stepped back from its popular Windows XP. Despite all that, the company has managed to stay on the top.

Microsoft is working hard to keep its presence felt on the web by doing all the hard work. It released Kinect last year, which became the fastest selling gadget of all time and has also supported the strong sales of the company’s Xbox 360 console, which is known to be consumers’ number one choice at the moment. Although, online multiplayer through Xbox Live is the only of the three consoles that charge for its services, it has still succeeded to outperform its competitor Sony’s PlayStation when it comes to copies of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Microsoft another intelligent move was to offer Windows 8 Alpha for preview to just common people, reserving the glory of the operating system for developers. During the first 24 hours, 500,000 users were allowed to download and test the future OS, which clearly shows the users’ faith in Microsoft and its products.

Although, Windows Phone is still young and lagging far behind Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, the winning of such award certainly spotlights the potential it has. According to the comments given to the Windows Phone, “it has the most potential, with a unique interface and a rapidly growing apps selection.”

Its user interface (UI) has also earned some appreciation at the event. The young Windows Phone 7 is not as big as the iOS and Android in the mobile game, but it still has the potential to come up as a major competitor to both in the future.

The jury while commented on Windows Phone 7 said that “It is an “innovative interface, with more success to come,” with a good number of users seem inclined on Metro movement.
