YouTube Adds Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks Movie Rentals

Netflix – the world’s leading Internet subscription service with over 20 million streaming members globally may have begin to keep a close eye on the new deal between YouTube and Disney to promote YouTube’s rental service. The new deal will bring hundreds of movies from the Disney to YouTube’s movie rental portal.

Being a part of the deal, movies from Disney-owned Pixar and DreamWorks are also available on the YouTube movie rental portal. Some of these movies are available just for $1.99. The majority of the movies are popular animated classics.

The official announcement appeared on the YouTube’s official blog stating that the initial batch is based on “the first of hundreds of The Walt Disney Studios Movies, Disney-Pixar and DreamWorks Studios,” with more to come in coming weeks.

Some of the initial releases that Disney offers on YouTube’s movie rental portal include the rather new Winnie the Pooh and Alice in Wonderland for $3.99 and $1.99 respectively. Those who are Pixar fans can enjoy both Cars and Cars 2. YouTube movie rental portal also includes the Pirates of the Caribbean for $3.99. Users will have 48 hours to watch the rented movie(s) according to the Disney deal. Furthermore, users will also be able to see behind-the-scenes clips, interviews and certain other related bonus content through YouTube Movie Extras.

YouTube-Disney deal marks the fourth major studio deal for the largest online video sharing community after Sony, Warner Bros and Universal, all of which are part of Google’s program to transform YouTube’s home movies image to capable streaming platform. By signing a number of different deals, Disney-ABC has been so persistent to expand its streaming content options. The last month’s deal with Amazon for Prime subscribers and a renewal of deal with Netflix are explicit examples of their intentions.

YouTube stable has already joined by thousands from Disney library. YouTube Movie rentals go as high as $3.99 and as low as $1.99, some content is available free of cost as well. Users can watch the rental movies online and also on their Android-powered devices, tablets, and Google TV. It is important to note here that the Walt Disney Studio YouTube movie rentals are only available in United States and Canada for now. We hope that YouTube will expand its rental services to other countries soon.
