Apple Plans to Launch Two New iPads Early Next Year

Apple is reportedly planning to launch two new iPads earlier next month, a report claims. The report is published on MacRumors, a blog dedicated to Apple and its products, based on a post published in DigiTimes, an online newspaper dedicated to the supply side of the consumer electronics industry, which cited the sources claiming that Apple is preparing to reveal its next-generation iPad line at the forthcoming MacWorld|iWorld event scheduled for January 26, 2012.

Apple is going to reveal two new iPads – mid-level and higher-end variants, claims the sources. Both the variants will feature 9.7-inch displays with 2048×1536 resolution, quad-core A6 chips, 5 and 8 megapixel cameras. However, the difference between two variants lies in the battery capacity with higher-end variant being have double capacity, 14,000mAh.

Below is given the extract from MacRumors:

Aside from a surprise Apple return to Macworld|iWorld, DigiTimes also reports that the new iPads will keep 9.7-inch screens, carry 1536×2048 Retina Displays, A6 processors, 5-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras, and over double the battery capacity (6500mAH -> 14,000mAH) for the higher end model.

DigiTimes reports that the company will also reduce the price of the iPad 2 so as to give tough competition to inexpensive $199 7-inch Kindle Fire. This means that Apple iPad lineup for 2012 will be based on three variants – entry level iPad 2, a mid-level iPad 3 and a high-end iPad 3.

The thing noticeable here is the source of the report, which is DigiTimes. It has never been proved as a reliable source for Apple-related rumors as most of the time it misses rather than being on target. So, it is not wise to take these reports authentic at the moment.

Apple is known for keeping things simple, it is hard to believe that the Cupertino-based company ever tries to divide its iPad line into three separate models. Moreover, Apple has long left the MacWorld, an annual conference, back in 2008. Rather Apple has been holding its own events in which the company made major announcements regarding its plan and future products. We have to wait for a while to find out the authenticity of this report. So, stay tuned.
