Apple’s Mac App Store Hits 100 Million Downloads

Hardly a year passed since the commencement of Apple’s Mac App Store and it has hit 100 million downloads, Apple announced. Undoubtedly, it is another big achievement for Apple.

The Cupertino-based company launched its Mac App Store earlier this year in January and modeled after the previously active iOS App Store. The idea was to provide its users a platform where they can get all desktop applications for the Mac.

Almost all the popular Mac applications are now available for download in the Mac App Store, such as the latest version of the Mac operating system, OS X Lion.

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller said in a statement, “With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world.”

In another statement, the Cupertino-based company claimed that the Mac App Store’s sister, the App Store, keeps over 500,000 apps, with users downloading 1 billion apps every month and overall number of downloads exceeds over 18 billion.
