Over 200 Billion Online Videos Viewed Globally in October

According to statistics provided by comScore, about 1.2 billion people aged 15 and older watched 201.4 billion videos online in October alone this year.

The digital measurement company’s first global online video report is based on its Video Metrix service, according to which, the Google-operated sites held the largest share of videos watched with about 88.3 billion views that accounted for 43.8% of all videos viewed in October. Interestingly, YouTube made up for 99% of Google’s all share.

The rest of all the sites showed a very little contribution in the shares of videos viewed in the month. After Google, the next to follow in the queue was Chinese site ‘Youku.com’ with 2.3% share. The music site VEVO accounted for 1.8% shares, while Facebook remained on the fourth spot with 1.3% shares.

If we further break the data down country by country, we will get some interesting facts. In case of videos viewed per viewer, Canada was at the top where Internet videos viewers averaged at 303.7 videos each, followed by United States and United Kingdom with 286.3 and 268.6 respectively. Further investigation showed that Turkey happened to be biggest share holder of most videos viewed globally, with 93.6% Internet users having viewed the video at least once during the month of October.

This is the first report of its type from comScore, so logically we don’t have any previous data available to compare the results with. But we can certainly compare the current comScore’s result with the results provide by Experian Hitwise and Neilsen to better understand the current market trends and to estimate the future statistics.
